We offer families an orientation of our service. Orientation commences with a tour and informative discussion of our service and venue. During this initial session, families are encouraged to ask questions and discuss their expectations.
At times, some families choose to complete a second (and perhaps even a third) orientation visit to feel more comfortable leaving their child in the care of others, to ask further questions, or meet our educational team in more depth. We are very flexible during the orientation process, and aim to make families feel welcome and confident that their choice of early childhood education and care is the right fit for their child and themselves.
When enrolling infants for the first time, we offer parents the opportunity to come and join into the room’s program for up to an hour for the first week. We have found that this provides the child to become familiar with the environment, the educators and other enrolled children within the safety and security of their parent’s supervision. This is one way that we can support young children to develop trusting relationships with others. Research states that when young children observe their parents and other trusted persons interacting positively with strangers and are comfortable in environments, young children are more able to see this as an opportunity to develop relationships with strangers of whom their parents trust/approve of. We have found this strategy has supported many children to transition into the childcare environment with lower levels of separation anxiety when away from parents and other known and trusted persons.
A final stage of the orientation process is offered. Parents can choose to enrol their child for either a morning or afternoon session for a few weeks prior to commencing a full day enrolment. This allows both parents and the child to experience a short period of time apart each day and settle into the childcare environment. Educators will remain in contact with parents as arranged at drop off to provide peace of mind and also establish a system of ongoing communication between the parents and educational team. This may be achieved using various strategies such as phone contact, email contact or communication via our parent communication software. We use Seesaw software as our parent communication software to communicate with parents about their child’s day and service notices and events.
